Slave Lake

 

Slave Lake is named for the First Nations people who resided in the region and who are Athabaskan people named “Slave” or “Slavey”.

 

Location:  Slave Lake is located in the north central part of the Province.

Built:  2013 – 2016

Style:  Modern

Architect:  Manasc Isaac of Edmonton

Contractor:  Chandos Construction Ltd. of Edmonton and PCL Construction

 

Description:  The building faces west and is a one story glass and concrete structure. The building is located in the centre of Slave Lake. The east front has a two story centre section with red coloured concrete and high glass walls. Decorative wood adorns the the exterior. The windows are narrow and vertical and the roof line is flat. The building is attached to the City Hall and is named as the Slave Lake Government Centre and Library. The building houses the Provincial Court.

 

Note:  The previous courthouse was destroyed in the Slave Lake fire of 2011
