Burns Lake is named for Michael Byrnes, who was an explorer for the Collins Overland Telegragh.

Description: The building faces west and is a one story structure. The building is located on landscaped grounds in the centre of Burns Lake. There are large square windows on the south and west sides. A wide band runs below the roof line. The roof rises towards the rear. The courtroom is located on the northeast side. The building houses the Provincial Court.
History: The first courthouse was a two story structure built by Bovill & Hann of Smithers in 1948 at a cost of $52,212 and is still standing. The building housed the Provincial Court. Government Agent’s Office and various departments. In 1972 the building served as the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako’s administration building before being purchased by private firm. In 1980 to 1981 the second courthouse was constructed.
