Mexico is named after the Aztec Tribe called “Mexica”.
Mexico comes from the words “Maxtli” ( moon or goddess ) and “Xietli” ( navel or centre ), because of which the name is interpreted as “The one who is in the centre of the moon” or “On the centre of the Meztli Lagoon”.

Description: The building faces south onto Lerdo de Tejada and is located in the centre of Toluca on the north side of Plaza de los Martires with Calle Nicolas Bravo along the west side. The three story building was constructed in 1967 in similar style to the 18th century palaces of the City of Mexico. The centre entrance is white stone against the dark red brick of the building.

Description: The building faces west and is located in the centre of Toluca on the east side of Plaza de los Martires with Avenida Independencia on the south side, with Lerda de Tejada on the north side and with Mariano Riva Palacio on the east side. The two story dark red brick building has a white stone entrance in the building centre with three large archways on the main floor. In the interior is a lobby with a bust of Don Jose Mariq Mora and a bust of Don Andres Molina Enriguez. The building houses the State Congress ( Honorable Congreso del Estado de Mexico ) with the Chamber of Deputies ( Camara de Diputados ).
Justice Palace (Palacio de Justicia) – Toluca

Description: The building is located in the centre of Toluca on the west side of Plaza de los Martires with Calle Nicolas Bravo along the east side and Avenida Sebastian Lerda de Tejada along the north side. The rectangular shaped building faces east onto the Plaza de los Martires and is a neocolonial style. The two story dark red coloured brick, black coloured tezorite and quarry stone building has a white coloured stone entrance in the building centre with three large archways on the main floor. In the interior is a lobby and three patios with the side patios named Benito Juarez and Jose Maria y Pavon. The central patio is the Constitution Patio. In 2010, a mural with the figures of the heroes of the Independence and leaders of the Revolution was painted in the main hall. In 2020, the building was remodeled and the Plaza de la Justice built on the south side of the building.
The building was originally constructed as the Government Palace and served as the seat of the executive branch until 1965. The building was remodeled in 1968 for the judicial branch and the old Justice Palace was demolished.
