Dinwiddie County is named for Robert Dinwiddie, who was the Lieutenant Governor of Virginia from 1751 to 1758.

Description: The building faces southeast and is a three story brick and concrete structure. The building is located on landscaped grounds in the center of Dinwiddie. The front of the building has a large portico with three arches on the first story and four columns rising to a curved pediment at the roof line. The first story is white colored concrete and a wide horizontal white colored band runs above the second story windows. The roof line is flat. The building houses the County Circuit Court, County General District Court and County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court of the 11th Judicial Circuit.

Description: The building faces west and is a two story yellow colored brick structure. The rectangular shaped building is located on spacious landscaped grounds in the center of Dinwiddie to the south of the courthouse. The west front has a large portico with four Doric columns rising to a wide pediment which was built in 1933. Above the entrance is a small balcony. On the south side, there are one story wings on the east and west sides. The roof is hipped. In the interior, the courtroom is located on the second story. The building was renovated in 1858.

Description: The building faces north and is a two light red colored brick and concrete structure. The building is located on spacious landscaped grounds in the center of Dinwiddie to the south of the courthouse.

History: The county was created in 1752 and Dinwiddie was selected as the county seat. The first courts met near Petersburg. The first courthouse was built but burned in 1821. The second courthouse was a wood structure built in 1822 in Dinwiddie. The third courthouse was built in 1851 to 1852 and is still standing. The fourth and preset courthouse was constructed in 1995 to 1997 at a cost of $7,200,000.
