Sitka is derived from Sheet’ká, a contraction of the Tingit Shee At’iká) means “People on the Outside of Baranof Island,” whose Tlingit name is Sheet’-ká X’áat’l (here contracted to Shee).

Description:  The building faces west and is a two story white colored structure. The rectangular shaped building is located in the center of Sitka. The building has an overhanging second story with recessed entrance. The windows are vertical. The roof line is flat. In the interior, the court is located on the second story. The building houses the Superior Court of the 1st Judicial District and the District Court.
