Old County Courthouse – Mays Landing

Description: The building faces south and is a two story red colored brick structure. The building is located on spacious landscaped grounds with Memorial Park along the west side. In the center is the original red colored brick courthouse with a pyramidal roof and white colored octagonal belfry with red colored dome. On either side are the red colored brick Clerk’s Office built in 1906 on the east side and The Surrogate Office on the west side. These building have flat roof lines and a frontispiece entrance surrounds the main entrance in the central bay of each building. On either side of the courthouse, additions with arches along the first story were constructed in 1979. The architect was Martin F Blumberg and the contractor was Arthur J Ogrew. On the north side of the courthouse are the old sheriff residence and jail.
Note: The land was donated on May 25, 1838 by resident Samuel Richards. The 1840 jail was designed by notable Philadelphia architect Thomas Ustick Walter.

Description: The building faces southeast and is a three story red colored brick and concrete structure. The building is located on spacious landscaped grounds. The northeast front has a projecting center section with three arched entrances on the first story and large arched window above on the second and third stories. Along the front are large arched windows. The roof is hipped. Along the southwest is a parking garage. The project manager was Gregg Creserzo and the engineer was CZAR Engineers.

Description: The building faces east and is a three story red colored brick, glass and concrete structure. The building is rectangular with main entrance at the east corner with recessed doorway and glass walls. The windows are horizontal. On the flat roof is a raised metal section. The building houses the Family Court.
History: The county was created in 1837 and Mays Landing was selected as the county seat. The first courthouse was built in 1838 to 1840. The Atlantic City Courthouse was constructed in 1973 to 1975. The Criminal Courts Complex was constructed in 2002 to 2004.

Location: 1335 Atlantic Ave / Tennessee Avenue

Description: The building faces southeast and is a ten story glass and concrete structure. There are concrete framed entrances on the south and north sides with a high atrium running along the west side of the high glass tower. On the west side, the building is three stories.
