Description: The building faces west and is a two story red colored brick and concrete structure. The building is located on landscaped grounds in the center of Helena. The building has a raised basemenr. The west front has a porch with six large columns supporting a wide header. There are three doors on the first story with windows between the columns. The cornice below the roof line projects. The roof line is flat. In the interior are wide center stairs ascending to the second story. The County Circuit Court courtroom is located on the second story. The building houses the County Circuit Court of the 1st Judicial Circuit. The building was renovated in 1984. The architect was Cromwell, Truemper, Levy, Parker & Woodmall and the contractor was White Construction Company of Clarksdale, Mississippi.

History: The county was created in 1820 and Helena was selected as the county seat. The first courthouse was built in 1869 at a cost of $44,000. The second and present courthouse was constructed in 1914 to 1915 at a cost of $250,000.
